Message Hello all, my name is Troy and I've been lurking for a while but I figured it was time to introduce myself.

I purchased a 90 TT from a co-worker that was headed overseas. He was looking to get rid of his long time project which I’ve seen built from a bare chassis. I received the car mostly assembled but a lot of parts in boxes. I let it sit for about a year before I even attempted to touch it as I was working on my other toy. Quick mod list to familiarize:

Well over the past 6 months I’ve been reading and learning quit a bit while slowly dipping into the Z. The previous owner told me that he had issues with it breaking up on the dyno so he decided to go to a Haltech Platinum Pro ECU. He took the interior apart to install it, started a HICAS delete and some other stuff but just never finished it.

Well at first the car just appeared to be a wiring nightmare but the further I dug into it, the more things I found that just wasn’t up to my standard. Basically there was a lot of installation error, bad wiring jobs and things that were prone to cause future issues. More recently I figured I would pull the fuel hat and see what the tank looked like since it had a ¼ tank of fuel sitting in it for at least a couple years. To my surprise I believe I found the cause of the previous owners “dyno breaking up issues.” I found non-fuel rated hoses connecting the fuel pumps to the hats and they were soft and squishy. There were dual TT pumps with an Ashpec dual pump controller and oem fuel lines. I chose to switch to a single Walbro 485 with all -6AN line and a custom fuel hat. I still need to finish the hat but it will be similar to CZP’s modified fuel hat with some improvements.

While I ordered the parts for the HAT I decided to finish shooting wires (previous owner added wire everywhere without labeling anything) and cleaning it up from the cab to the engine bay. After seeing some of the other work I decided pulling the motor would be the best option. Once I had the motor on the stand I ended up draining the oil and finding some metallic particles in the oil. At this point I’m thinking, ahh this is normal as the motor has less than 500 miles since it was built and I bet it hasn’t had its first oil change. My curiosity got the best of me and I decided to pull the oil pan.

Once pulled, I inspect everything and discover what I believe to be abnormal cylinder wall scuffing. Not this requires I tear the motor down which I did over the past two days. At this point I’m seriously debating cutting my losses and parting this thing out since I know I would make more money do so. By now my car guy ways have gotten the best of me, I’ve started to get attached and I really want to see this thing complete.

Today I dropped off the short block to my local Nissan guru shop and they’re going to go through it.

She started off with a “Custom 350Z inspired” interior, which I have changed. I wanted to go with a more oem look so I replaced it with a stock dash. (I still have the 350Z dash if someone is interested):

I removed all of the oem fuel line and HICAS lines. I will run the new -6AN line in its place to keep it clean:

I still need to pull a cam and measure it to see which cams I have exactly. I believe them may be aftermarket but not sure:

Harry Sandhu at Ztuner in Florida will be doing my tune. I plan on getting it tuned on E-85 with a pump 93 tune as well.

More to follow…
